History

Since the establishment of Restaurant Hotel Merlet in 1984 by Bert and Nelleke van Bourgonje, Merlet has experienced successful growth in all respects. Below is a brief overview of the most important milestones since its founding.

1984 Start of business by Nelleke and Bert van Bourgonje: 18 hotel rooms, swimming pool, sauna, restaurant and a meeting room

1986 Merlet acquires operation of 't Oude Raadhuisje

1995 Merlet builds a new restaurant with 2 extra rooms and Grand Café Bourgogne is built in the existing restaurant

1996 Voted hotel of the year by ANWB readers

1998 Achieved Michelin star with chef Alan Pearson

1998 Renewal of swimming pool and sauna

1999 Takeover of Merlet by Carla and Martin van Bourgonje

2001 Retained Michelin star with new chef Wilco Berends 2001 Renewal of the restaurant

2003 Realization of 2 meeting rooms at Duinweg 7

2004 Expansion of hotel with 7 suites and the Duinblickzaal

2005 Renewal of the Earth, Air and Lotta suites

2006 New architecturally designed parking lot and realization of Royal Suite

2007 Retention of Michelin star with new chef Timo Munts

2007 Expansion with two new deluxe Rooms

2007 Appointment of new chef Timo Munts

2007 After reaching the age of 65, Bert van Bourgonje resigns from Merlet

2008 Renovation of the restaurant

2008 Renewal of sauna and expansion with steam cabin, sunbed and fitness

2009 Merlet's very first cookbook is released 'A restaurant with ten stars, art in the kitchen of Schoorl'. The proceeds from this cookbook go to charity, the Hematology department of the VU Medical Center in Amsterdam

2009 Merlet celebrates its 25th anniversary in April

2009 Membership Alliance Gastronomique 2010 Renewal of the Grand Café 2011 Renewal of Standard Rooms and also expansion of Standard Rooms to Spacious rooms

2012 New construction of lounge, Bar de Mer, parking garage, four spacious rooms, two suites and a private kitchen for Grand Café Bourgogne 2013 Appointment of new chef Frank van Enter 2015 Appointment of new executive chef Jonathan Zandbergen 2016 Standard rooms renovated

2016 Retained Michelin star

2016 Increased in de Lekker top 100

2017 Marco Helsloot winner of the silver chef's knife - Horecava

2017 Marco Helsloot & Bas Varga third in the national championship for students - Horecava

2017 Anniversary! Restaurant Merlet achieves the Michelin star for the 20th year in a row

2018 Jonathan Zandbergen, Marco Helsloot and Rob Overdevest win the Golden Chef's Hat Cooking Competition at the Horecava

2020 Stay Home Away from Home: Merlet converts rooms into private dining spaces for culinary and safe enjoyment

2020 Merlet organizes the largest drive-through star restaurant in the Netherlands during covid times: the culinary route

2021 Restaurant Merlet serves lunch on cruise ship during corona times

2021 Merlet Theater opens , and unfortunately has to close its doors again due to adapted measures

2022 Grand Café Bourgogne awarded with 12 points by Gault&Millau and included in the yellow guide

2023 Merlet organizes Secret Restaurant

2023 Merlet opens CHEFFD Atelier: omakase style chef's table restaurant

2023 Restaurant Merlet four 25- anniversary of the Michelin star

2024 Merlet celebrates 40th anniversary
